Dr. Abbey Bain
Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Student Engagement, LSUA
Dr. Abbey Bain was raised outside of Atlanta, Georgia in Peachtree City. She attended Valdosta State University (VSU) where she studied early childhood education. She went on to obtain a Master’s in Higher Education and Leadership from VSU, worked in Student Life, and then the Office of Admissions.
In fall of 2012, Abbey began the Ph.D. program at LSU in Higher Education Administration while working as a graduate assistant in the Office of Enrollment Management. During her tenure, she introduced a new assessment initiative for all recruitment programs to support a culture of data driven decision making. In May of 2013 Abbey was recruited for a new graduate assistant position in the Office of the President. Within this role she completed research projects centering on college affordability, accessibility, and trends in funding for higher education. She graduated with her Ph.D. in December of 2015, her dissertation research focused on the engagement and professional development of graduate assistants in student affairs.
In January 2016 she accepted a position at LSUA as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Chancellor, and then summer of 2017 she was promoted to the Director of the Center for Student Success, and in February of 2020 was named the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment & Student Engagement. Dr. Bain has initiated a variety of new retention programs and restructured advising for freshman.
Abbey serves on the Central Louisiana Chamber Board of Directors and was named top 20 under 40 in 2018. She is married to Jared Bain and they live in Bunkie on the family farm and have a two-year-old daughter, Lucy.
