Dr. Darlene Williams
Vice President, Technology, Innovation, and Economic Development, Northwestern State University
Dr. Williams is the Vice President for Technology, Innovation, and Economic Development at Northwestern State University and serves as the key administrator in the development and continuance of business and industrial partnerships. In addition, she is responsible for the operation of the Offices of Information and Technology Services, Electronic and Continuing Education, the Office of Sponsored Programs, NSU@Barksdale, NSU@Marksville, NSU@BPCC, and the CENLA and Leesville/Ft.Polk satellite campuses. Dr. Williams directs the activities for eNSU, Northwestern State’s Electronic Campus, which currently offers 40 online degrees, 450 courses, and serves over 7,000 students. As an advocate for eLearning, Dr. Williams has been instrumental in the development of a comprehensive professional development program for faculty, traditional and accelerated online degrees, online student services, portfolio assessment, and technological infrastructure to support the campus community of Northwestern State.
Dr. Williams is also an Associate Professor in the Gallaspy College of Education and Human Development where she has taught online courses on Advanced Telecommunications and Distance Learning since the year 2000. As an accomplished grant writer, Dr. Williams has received numerous monetary awards in support of her technology efforts at Northwestern State University.
Dr. Williams serves on the Board of Directors for Quality Matters, a global organization that leads quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments. She also serves as the Chair of the Louisiana Board of Regents Electronic Learning Strategic Planning Task Force and in this role assists state leaders in the identification of strategic objectives, innovative approaches, and best practices in eLearning. In 2014, Dr. Williams was recognized as Louisiana’s Postsecondary Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Association for Computer Using Educators.
Dr. Williams received her B.A, M.Ed., and Ed.S. from Northwestern State University and her Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Curriculum, and Instruction from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
Darlene and her husband of 37 years reside in Sabine Parish. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, working on “cool” technology projects, fishing, and traveling.
